Durable Medical Equipment, commonly referred to as DME, encompasses a wide range of items designed to provide assistance, improve mobility, and enhance the overall quality of life for seniors. DME can include wheelchairs, walkers, canes, hospital beds, oxygen tanks, and more. These items not only help seniors maintain their independence, but they also ensure their safety, comfort, and quality of life.
Gaining access to the necessary DME can be challenging. High costs, limited insurance coverage, and a lack of awareness about available resources often stand as barriers between seniors and the equipment they require. As a result, many seniors are left without the essential tools needed to age with dignity and grace.
Family Shepherd buys homes from families that are transitioning loved ones into long-term care. Oftentimes, medical equipment has been left behind in the residence. Rather than letting these valuable items go to waste, we’re working to collect and redistribute them to individuals and families in our communities who can put them to good use.
Family Shepherd is partnering with other senior living professionals and organizations right here in Kansas City to identify those people who can really benefit from the donation of DME.
The act of collecting and donating DME is more than just an act of charity; it’s an expression of empathy, compassion, and community support. It gives seniors the tools they need to maintain their independence, navigate daily life, and enjoy their golden years with dignity.
If you work in senior living, or are connected to the senior community, and are aware of a need for donated DME, Family Shepherd would love to hear from you. Please take the time to complete our contact form, or send us an email.
